Third Grade News - September 2, 2016


What we have done:
We have started on our second topic in math over addition and subtraction. We have talked about subtraction and addition and its meaning, using mental math to add and subtract, and introduced rounding. In ELA we have been working on a how to write personal narratives,including good beginnings and juicy middles! We have also been exploring parts of speech in our Patricia Polacco books. Below you will find what will be happening in our classrooms next week.

ELA:
Students will be digging deep into our last Patricia Polacco book! We will be discussing how to write and add dialogue into our personal narratives, as well as what pronouns are and do for our writing. We will also continue to practice Literature Discussion Group activities as well.

Math:    
Students will continue to work on Topic 2 over addition and subtraction. We will continue to work on rounding, estimating sums, estimating differences, making sense of addition and subtraction equations, and seeing if problems are reasonable.                                                                                                            

Content:
Next week we will be discussing Westward Expansion and how it affected the Native Americans. We will be exploring the point of view of the pioneers and of the Native Americans.
